Nepal brilliantly defeated the home team Bangladesh 2-0 to top group A and reach the semi-final of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
Bimal Gharti Magar and substitute Nawayug Shrestha scored for Nepal to ensure the semi-final berth. The game with so much of excitement ended in Nepal’s favor. The Bangabandhu National Stadium with the capacity of 36000 was almost full to watch the match between Nepal and Bangladesh. There were thousands of Nepali supporters as well.
Bimal Gharti Magar scored in long-range free-kick thanks to misjudgment by Bengali keeper in the 33rd minute. After taking the lead, Nepali team looked quite blunt in the forward line with Nepal merely attacking in Bangladeshi side. In the second half, after fielding fresh blood (Anjan, Bishal, and Nawayug), Nepal’s forward line create some chances. And finally, the substitutes duo combine to double the lead for Nepal. Nawayug Shrestha scored wisely in through ball from Bishal Rai.
After the win, Nepal finish as group winner of Group A with six points. Pakistan qualified from Group A as runner-up with six points. Nepal topped with better goal difference.
Now, Nepal will meet the runner-up from group B. The runner-up from group B is yet to be decided. India and Maldive will play each other tomorrow and that match will decide the group winner from Group B.
