Lalitpur Patriots defeated Bairahawa Gladiators by 14 runs to lift the trophy of Everest Premier League 2018 in a highly entertaining final match at TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu. The Stadium full by the crowd of the fans provided yet another glittering final with the last over of the match making all the difference.
Lalitpur Patriots restricted Bairahawa Gladiators in 141/9 to win by 14 runs, in the match being surrounded by about 15 thousands of fans. Lalit Rajhbansi played a crucial role in the win taking 3 wickets and giving just 17 runs in his four over spell. Meanwhile, Pawan Sarraf and Yogendra Karki got two wickets each.
Chasing the moderate target of 156, Bairahawa Gladiators had a dream start with RN ten Doeschate (14) and Pradeep Airee sharing 33 runs opening partnership. RN ten Doeschate was caught in the fifth over. Pradeep Airee seemed much attacking with 34 runs in his name but falling prey to Karki’s ball to be caught by G.Malla cost his brilliant knock.
Ravi Inder Singh added 29 runs in the score sheet but more was expected from the leading run scorer of the tournament. Other batsmen then went for much cheaper as Aarif shiekh could made only 12 runs from 18 balls and the skipper Sharad Veswakar too managed to make only 14 runs from 12 balls. Kushal Malla made quick 16 runs from 8 balls. Other batsmen couldnt make the double digit run.
More important part of the match came in the last over when Yogendra singh Karki bowled the over to give just 2 runs when 17 was required for the gladiators to get the victory. he got 2 wicket in the final over.
With the end of first innings, Lalitpur patriots managed to post the target 156, with Jaykishan Kolsawala(lhb) playing the crucial role with magnificent half century. He had played as the opener and was playing steady and controlled game as the wickets were falling on the other end.
GY Tomar and Kolsawala had started the innings with 41 runs opening partnership. The partnership was broken when Tomarwas caught by Inder Singh from ten Doeschate. The skipper Gyanendra Malla was out for 10 runs whereas Pawan Sharaff was run out on 5. However, S Jhora came for his short but important 24 runs on 11 balls before falling prey on the ball of Bhuwan Karki. Jaykishan Kolsawala then did the rest of the job before being bowled by Krishna Karki with 57 runs, his 52 balls containing 3 fours and as much as sixes. K Bhurtel made 11 runs and S Tamang made just 3 runs.
Bairahawa bowlers were hit with the boundaries of fours and sixes where Avinash Bora was found much expensive giving 37 runs in his four over spell.But rescue came from Krishna Karki. He took 3 crucial wickets in his spell. The highest wicket taker of the tournament, Mohammed Naveed too was found disappointing being hit for 31 runs but he made the come back in the second last over taking 2 wickets. The Lalitpur Patriots was then restricted for 155 as the fall of wickets continue in the last three overs of the innings.
It is the first domestic trophy for Gyanendra Malla as the Captain.
