The defending champions of Bangabandhu Gold Cup, Nepal is out of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup 2018 from the group stage with two loses. Nepal lost its second game against Palestine 1-0 in the match played at Sylhet District Stadium.
With only a win against the Palestine with goal margin of at least 2 needed, Nepal’s coach Bal Gopal Maharjan benched the two experienced forwards duo Bharat Khawas and Nawayug Shrestha, giving new comer, Tez Tamang chance in the starting eleven.
The Palestine side continuously dominated Nepal’s half, thanks to Bikesh Kuthu for his incredible performance. He denied several goal scoring opportunities of Palestine. Nepal merely made any attacks in Palestine post. Palestine scored the only goal in the 70th minute of the match with a solid header from Khalid.
Nepal had lost its first game 2-0 against Tajikistan and Tajikistan lost to Palestine 2-0. After today’s victory, Palestine advanced to semi-final as group A winners whereas Tajikistan advanced as runner up.
