After making winning start to the Tour, Nepal were defeated in their second warm up match against St Cross Symondians by 19 runs. Nepal had defeated Hampshire Hogs Cricket Club by huge margin of 243 runs in their first match. It was a 50-overs match. However, it was 20 overs match yesterday.
After winning the toss, St Cross managed to put 168 runs on the board as they were aggressive from the very beginning of the inning. Jimmy Adams top scored for St Cross with 72 runs from just 48 balls. He smashed 9 fours and 2 maximum. For Nepal, Basanta Regmi and Sompal Kami took two wickets each. Sandeep Lamichhane took a wicket. St Cross finished 168/6 in 20 overs.
Coming into the bat, Nepal made good start with Subash Khakurel and Anil Kumar Shah opening for Nepal. They made opening partnership of 47 runs before Subash Khakurel was caught out. Anil Kumar Shah top scored for Nepal with 56 runs from 48 balls. He hit 6 fours and a maximum. Other Nepali batsmen didn’t make any notable contribute except Aarif Sheikh. Aarif Sheikh made 34 runs. Sompal Kami and Gyanendra Malla made 16 and 16 runs respectively. Paras Khadka was given rest and Gyanendra Malla was given the responsibility of Captain in the match.
This was Nepal’s T20 match after a very long time. Nepal were only playing 50 overs matches in past years. Nepal is playing a T20 series against MCC and Netherlands at Lord’s Cricket Ground followed by ODI series against Netherlands.
