Bangladesh surprisingly defeated Qatar 1-0 to book their place in the knock out round of Asian Games Men’s Football in Jakarta. Bangladesh is only the South Asian team to achieve this feat in this edition. Bangladesh were defeated 3-0 in their opening match by Uzbekistan. Similarly, they played impressive 1-1 draw against Thailand in the second game. Requiring win to ensure their place in the knock out round, Bangladesh went for it and defeated Qatar to book their place.
Bangladesh got their winning goal in the injury time of the match when Jamal Bhuiyan stroked for them. Meanwhile, Qatar remained at the bottom of the group D and are knocked out of the Asian Games. Similarly, Nepal lost their all three matches and their winless run in Asian Games continued further. In their last group match, Nepal lost to Pakistan 2-1.
