Nepal went down to Oman in their first match of Asia Cup Qualifiers which began from today in Malaysia.
Nepal lost to Oman by 7 wickets with 12 balls remaining. Oman reached the target of 222 set by Nepal in 48 overs, losing only 3 wickets. Khawar Ali remained not out in 84 runs. Hence, he was adjusted man of the match.
Losing the toss, Nepal was invited to bat first. Nepal managed to post 221/9 on the board with only few batsmen scoring runs in double digits. Opener Gyanendra Malla scored 45 runs.
Paras Khadka and Subash Khakurel were cheaply out. Sagar Pun made a perfect comeback to the team scoring 83 off 84 balls. Aarif Sheikh scored 36 runs and made impressive partnership with Pun. Similarly, Karan KC also scored a quickfire 26 off just 10 balls.
Mohammad Nadeem, AV Lalcheta and Bilal Khan took 2-2 wickets for Oman. From Nepal, it was only Paras Khadka who took a wicket. The remaining two wickets were run out.
Now, Nepal will take on UAE tomorrow in their second match of the qualifiers.
The winner of this qualifier will join the world giants India and Pakistan in group A of Asia Cup 2018. The top two from the round robin league of Qualifiers will play final match with the winners qualifying for the mega event in Asia.
